Ownership & Funding

Who owns Election News Desk, how the outlet pays its bills, and where every dollar over the disclosure threshold comes from. This page is updated whenever any of that changes.

Ownership

Election News Desk is independently owned and operated. It is not affiliated with, owned by, or controlled by any political party, government body, candidate, campaign, election authority, advocacy organization, or PAC. No advertiser, donor, or partner holds an ownership stake or board seat.

How we make money

  • Display advertising — IAB-standard placements sold against our editorial inventory. Advertisers cannot review or approve coverage. See Advertise.
  • Sponsored content — labelled clearly with the partner named at the top. Produced by a separate branded-content team, never by editorial staff.
  • Newsletter sponsorships — placements in our daily briefing.
  • Reader support and grants — see disclosures below.

Grants and major donors

We disclose any single grant, donation, or sponsorship of $5,000 or more from foundations, individuals, corporations, or other organizations. The list below covers the current and prior calendar year.

No grants or donations over the disclosure threshold to date.

What donors and advertisers cannot do

  • Kill a story, change its framing, or guarantee favorable coverage
  • Review or approve copy before publication
  • Direct what we cover or do not cover
  • Receive non-public information about ongoing reporting

Conflicts of interest

Reporters and editors do not donate to campaigns, parties, or political action committees, and do not volunteer for campaigns. Any unavoidable personal or financial conflict is disclosed in the relevant article and on the staff member’s author page.

Political advertising archive

All political ad buys — candidates, parties, PACs, ballot-measure committees — are logged in a public archive with the funder named, the spend disclosed, and the run dates recorded. Archive available before the start of the next active election cycle.
